Crocheting - Just the Basics
When Christmas gets closer, some of you may wish you had the skill to create a one-of-a-kind crocheted gift for someone special. So, we have provided a very basic guide to learning to crochet. With practice and an acquired knowledge of more advanced stitches, you'll be surprised just how lovely your gifts can be.
Only these basic stitches are required to create our colorful Candy Cane Striped Hooded Scarf...give it a try.
Chain Stitch
Make a loop or slipknot in yarn
and place on hook.
Wrap yarn from skein around fingers of left hand.
Hold your project with thumb
and forefinger of the left hand
Catch yarn and pull it back
through loop for first stitch.
Continue to make chain stitches.
Practice will even the tension of the stitches.
Single Crochet
Crochet a chain of 21 stitches.
Insert hook in second loop back.
Catch the yarn and draw
it back through the chain.
Catch the yarn again and
draw it back through both.
Continue to make a single
crochet in each chain stitch.
At end of row, make a chain,
turn work and start second row.
